Penn State Men’s Basketball: Transfer Exodus Continues as Jameel Brown Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State basketball guard Jameel Brown has entered the transfer portal according to a report Brown later confirmed. He is the latest Nittany Lion to enter the portal following the departure of head coach Micah Shrewsberry to Notre Dame. Brown was a key piece to Shrewsberry’s 2022 recruiting class, opting to follow Shrewsberry to Penn State from Purdue where the two had a previous relationship on the recruiting trail.

Brown spent the majority of the season on the bench but appeared upbeat and optimistic about his future with the program prior to Shrewsberry’s departure.

In total Brown averaged 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds in 4.6 minutes per game over 14 games. He set career highs with five points and three rebounds in a blowout win over Canisius in December.

Forward Evan Mahaffey entered the portal earlier in the week as the first freshman to do so while guards Dallion Johnson and Caleb Dorsey did the same prior to Shrewsberry’s departure. Additionally senior Seth Lundy opted to declare for the NBA Draft and forgo his final – extra – year of eligibility.

On the recruiting trail Carey Booth and Logan Imes both asked for a release from their signed National Letters of Intent. Braeden Shrewsberry, son of Micah, has yet to publicly do the same.

In total Penn State enters Wednesday afternoon with three scholarship players on its roster; Kanye Clary, Kebba Njie and Demetrius Lilley. Penn State appears poised to announce VCU head coach Mike Rhoades as its replacement for Shrewsberry as early as Wednesday.
